Monster by Claire Penson - 5 September 2009

Full shapes, natural lines, fictional character, patterns and colour come to life in Claire's first solo exhibition, Monster, at The Butcher Shop.

Since childhood, Claire has experimented with drawing and illustration, leading her to interior design, fine arts and finally to graphic design where she has discovered her passion. Here she learnt to integrate her love for illustration with logo design and type treatment, t-shirt designs, music artwork, fabric design and many other applications.

Graduating Graphic Design in 2008, Claire received Keith + Lottie's Beaumont Award, recognising the development of her own artistic style within her design practice. It is these artistic tendencies which have surfaced in the form of Monster.

Opens Saturday 5th September and runs until the 15th September 2009.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Amok's work first started appearing on the streets in 1996. Since then he has become a prominent figure in the Amsterdam graffiti and art scene. He is known for his perfect colour combinations, original letter style and tropical feel pieces.

His canvasses build on the years of technique learned from the streets, combining his love for lettering and colour in a simple and effective way. His canvases are bold, striking and carefully balanced. This collection is heavily inspired by his first encounters of Australian marine life.

The Butcher Shop is pleased to present Amok's first solo show, and the first exhibition in the stores newly renovated art space.
