Abando - Jarrad Martyn

An Exhibition by Jarrad Martyn

Opens: Friday 10th June 2016, from 6pm to late
Exhibition Runs Until: Monday 20th June 2016

At The Butcher Shop Northbridge

Abando, a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jarrad Martyn, explores the allure of abandoned sites and buildings. Encountered through a curiosity in exploring and an interest in painting walls, Martyn examines the human interaction in these sites after they have become abandoned. Often explored while travelling, Abando features a range of different sites, from a abandoned theme park in Berlin to a abandoned entertainment complex in Bali.

Through the scrapping and blurring of paint he encourages associations to the physicality which often characterises the human interaction occurring in these sites, while reinforcing the changing landscape that is created by the manmade being reclaimed by nature. He questions how someone's behaviour can change when not being dictated by an overarching set of constraints or rules.

The exhibition is the result of the work created during the artist residency at The Butcher Shop. For the past two months Martyn has been occupying The Butcher Shop studio. We are pleased to present the second body of work created during our new residency program.

Beyond Skate presents Number of the Beast

6 Artists, 6 Colours, 6 Days

Opening: Friday, May 27, 7pm - 9pm
Location: Beyond Art Gallery and Skate Park, 345 Charles Street, North Perth

Number Of The Beast is a collaborative exhibition exploring the graffiti movement and the influence it has had on youth culture and our lives as we grow. Graffiti has become a career for some as well as remaining a strong influence for many artists that move into other professions.

The artists presenting works have taken their experiences from graffiti and channeled them into many other practices such as photography, graphic design, tattooing, air brushing, fine art, pinstriping, skateboard art and more.

This group show will see 6 artists, using 6 colours over 6 days to create a collaborative mural on the walls in our underground carpark. Selected works will be on display in the gallery space along side the sketches used by the artists to create the designs for the murals.
