The Golden State, by Jarryd Martyn explores three events from Western Australian history, the 1950s Montebello nuclear testing, the Barnett government shark cull and the dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point in Broome.
Building upon the cultural cringe, Martyn uses collage and painting to unpack and re-arrange the meaning of the events, creating landscapes that slip in-between the real and the imagined to question our interaction and history with the landscape.
Jarrad Martyn is an emerging Western Australia artist. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Curtin University with a focus on painting and drawing.
